FAQs
What Is A Zipline Canopy Tour?
A Zip Line Canopy Tour is a series of cables and platforms that take you on an exhilarating tour through forests and wildlife. Canopy Tours were originally created to study different plant life and trees. Now it has become much more about the exciting “ziplining” experience. However, we still try and show the forest and wildlife from a perspective you’ll never forget!
Is Ziplining Safe?
Your safety is our top priority. Each zipline tour is facilitated by at least two tour guides who have been through extensive training. They will take care of every safety-related detail on the course, so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the rides. Our courses are registered with the PA Department of Agriculture Rides and Measurements Bureau, and they meet/exceed the design standards of ACCT (Association for Challenge Course Technology). One of our guides does a daily “run-through inspection,” a state-certified inspector does a monthly inspection, and once a year, a certified third-party inspector does an inspection. All of our courses use a brake design system that the industry recognizes as the safest approach to braking. Each line is “dialed in” to allow gravity to work as a natural brake. Each line also has a “backup” brake mechanism controlled by our staff, so the participant does not need to worry about slowing themselves down. We use a patented braking/retrieval system called a ZIPKea on each zip line.
Should We Tip The Tour Guides?
There is no tipping expected. There will be at least two guides with your group for the duration of the event, and you can expect that they will be highly professional and safety conscious. They will take good care of your group through the experience, whether you tip them or not!
What Physical Condition Should I Be In To Participate?
Participants do need to be reasonably fit to participate by the nature of the event. Please see the Activities Release and Waiver Form for more details on this. Still, in general, participants should be able to carry 20-30 lbs of weight without difficulty, climb a flight of stairs, stand without assistance, walk over uneven terrain up and down a moderate slope. See the question below on age, weight, and height restrictions for more detail.
What Are The Age, Weight, And Height Restrictions For The Activities?
For all “high adventure” activities, individual riders must be at least 5 years old. All participants can NOT exceed 280 lbs. At the zipline guide’s discretion, any rider under 60 lbs may need to ride tandem with a guide on certain lines.
Children 12 and under MUST be accompanied by an adult to complete the zip line courses; the Aerial Excursion and Challenge Adventure Course ratio is 1 adult per 3 children. An adult is defined as a person over the age of 18+.Â
Can I Just Show Up For A Tour?
No. You should schedule a tour ahead of time. If you just show up, and we have space available, we will gladly fit you in, but we sell out of space regularly, plus we have specific start times. People that show up without a reservation generally don’t get to go through the course. You can book online or call us at 1-888-353-1490.
How Do I Make A Reservation?
You can book online or call us at 1-888-353-1490. We will need to know:
- What date(s)/time(s) you are interested in
- How many people to expect
- Your credit card information will be required to finalize the reservation (full payment is due at the time of reservation).
Are Photos Or Videos Available For Purchase? Do You Rent GoPro’s?
- We offer Viewpoint Rentals starting at $29 per camera for one tour with discounts if you rent multiple cameras (plus 6% sales tax).
- Rentals are handled on a first-come, first-serve basis and can be reserved at the time of reservation or when you check-in at our office.Â
- Rental includes the use of the camera for the duration of the tour.
- Cameras are forward mounted on helmets and can record live video in 1080 HD at 60 fps or still images at 5 megapixels.
- Our staff maintain and set up the equipment and are available to assist you as needed.
- Following your experience you will receive a QR code to access your video. You will have 30 days to download to your devices.
Can I Bring A Camera/Camcorder Along With Me?
Yes, but it must be secured to your wrist, or we can attach it to your harness using the wrist strap. We do not allow you to wear cameras or anything around your neck for safety reasons. Also, if you choose to bring your equipment, you should recognize that there is a possibility that it could be damaged on tour. So whatever you bring is at your own risk. It is essential to secure it to your person for the tour.
What If I Need To Cancel Or Change My Reservation?
Full Payment is due with the reservation. Up to 3 days before the start time, customers can 1) change the tour date/time at no cost, 2) cancel the current booking and receive Store Credit for the full value of the cancellation, or 3) cancel the current booking and receive a refund minus the booking fee. Within 3 days, no changes are possible and there are no refunds for cancellation, except in cases of inclement weather. We are rain or shine, but if we determine inclement weather would affect the comfort and/or safety of the guest or guides (ex: high winds, lightning, heavy downpour, extreme temperatures, etc…), customers will have the option to re-schedule at no cost or receive store credit. COVID-19 AMENDMENT. Any guest(s) that feel unwell prior to their tour should call the office to re-schedule. Full value of the amount paid will be posted forward as store credit for a new date, and no fees will be assessed on the schedule change.
What Happens If I Start The Tour And Don’t Want To Finish?
In this situation, you will be billed for the full event. However, you do not need to finish the tour. The course is “Challenge By Choice,” so if you feel that you cannot continue, our tour guides will be able to belay you to the ground from any of the platforms on the course. You will then need to walk from that point back to the starting point. We want you to have a positive experience at our environmentally-friendly canopy tour.
Can I Add Other Activities To The Event?
Yes, Refreshing Mountain offers an array of other activity options, and there are often discounts available if you add them to your day before or after ziplining. Check out this page to learn more about our Wildlife Center, Giant Swing, Climbing Tower, Escape Rooms, and many other activities.
Please call our Front Desk at 1-888-353-1490 to help with booking; otherwise, discounts may be available for online bookings.
Can I Make This Into An Overnight Trip?
Yes. We offer very cozy cabins suites for up to 8 people and tent sites if you want something more rustic. For groups of 20+ people, see our information on Large Group Retreats for additional options.
