Reimagined Gym after Fire at Lancaster Retreat Center
Refreshing Mountain Reopens New Gym After 2026 Fire
Stevens, PA — May 2026 — Refreshing Mountain is proud to announce the reopening of its fully restored and significantly enhanced gym facility following a fire incident in January 2026. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the event presented considerable challenges for the organization and the many guest groups scheduled between January and May.
During the four-month reconstruction period, Refreshing Mountain remained committed to delivering exceptional guest experiences. The team quickly adapted by transforming outdoor pavilions into temporary activity spaces, equipping them with tent walls, heating solutions, and recreational amenities such as ping pong tables and foosball.
"Our priority was to continue serving our guests with excellence, even in the face of disruption," said Justin Harnish, Administrative Director at Refreshing Mountain. "We are incredibly grateful for the resilience of our team, the flexibility of our guests, and the support of our local community."
Working closely with local builders and restoration specialists, Refreshing Mountain took the opportunity not just to rebuild, but to reimagine, the gym space. As one of the property’s original structures, the building has now been revitalized with modern enhancements while keeping the recreational and refreshment purpose unchanged.
Key upgrades include:
- A 16-by-45-foot mezzanine balcony dedicated to table games
- A new 40-foot indoor climbing tower (construction to complete in summer 2026)
- Upgraded flooring for performance and multi-sport courts
- Enhanced sound mitigation
- A fully refreshed interior aesthetic
The new space not only accommodates more guests simultaneously but also offers a significantly enriched experience that exceeds the capabilities of the original facility.
"This space is more than restored, it’s transformed," added Marlin Harnish, President. "We’re excited to welcome guests into an environment that reflects both our heritage and our vision for the future."
Future Development Coming
Looking ahead, Refreshing Mountain has plans to restore and redevelop the attached meeting room where the fire originated. This next phase of the project is expected to begin in 2027, with more details to be announced in the coming months.
