5 stars — Because where else can your kids fly through trees, hug a pig, become wild plant experts, AND be fully worn out before dinner?

Refreshing Mountain has officially earned its spot as our family’s home away from home. We’ve been coming here at least twice a year for seven years straight (minus the COVID gap we’ve all blacked out). And every single visit has been pure magic.

Today? Top-tier. We ziplined, tackled obstacle courses, climbed walls like tiny action heroes, and visited the farm where one of my kids fell deeply in love with a pig. (We are now apparently a “we need a pet pig” household. Send help.)

But this time, we also tried something new—a foraging class, recently added to their already amazing lineup of activities. My kids are now self-proclaimed wild plant experts, and I’m only slightly concerned they’re going to start making backyard salads out of suspicious leaves. But in all seriousness? It was fantastic. Educational, hands-on, and so much fun that no one even asked for snacks during it. A miracle.

And then there’s the moment that keeps us coming back: years ago, when my disabled son Rhys couldn’t zipline on his own, the incredible staff made it happen with a tandem ride that let him soar through the trees like a superhero. It was a moment I’ll never forget—and the kind of kindness and intentional inclusion that defines Refreshing Mountain.

Every staff member we’ve met has been welcoming, patient, and genuinely happy to help families make unforgettable memories (even if we’re loud, chaotic, and slightly muddy).

This place isn’t just an adventure—it’s a gift. 1000/10 recommend. Just maybe don’t come during peak Carlisle car show traffic, unless you enjoy testing your patience before the ropes course.
I've been wanting to check this place out for the last few years and we finally made it down there and will absolutely be back! Our first impression was how clean and well-maintained the property was. They have taken great care to keep their facilities updated and maintained. Our family purchased the ascent package which included two ziplines, the aerial obstacle course, rock wall, and a few other on-site activities like sling-shots and the reptile house. Our kids range from 6-16 and they ALL loved the ziplines. I think next time we would purchase the package that included the other ziplines as well because the kids loved that part. I've been on other ziplines that required a steep climb and these didn't which was nice because it was accessible to a wide range of ages and ability levels. We spent about 2.5 hours there and felt like we got our money's worth. It was a highlight of my kids' spring break. My wheels are already turning about bringing teams or youth groups down here as they definitely have a perfect set up for that.
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're so glad to hear you and your family enjoyed your time here and were looking forward to your next visit!
What a neat place ! Our family of 15 enjoyed this adventure! The lights were beautiful, 9 of our group did zip lining and had a fantastic experience. Only complaint was the remaining of us went to the lodge to get hot chocolate and they locked the doors 😞
Response from the owner:We’re so glad your family had a fantastic time with the lights and ziplining, but we’re sorry to hear about the hot chocolate situation. That’s such a bummer! We really appreciate your understanding and feedback, and we hope to welcome you all back soon for another great adventure!

FAQs

What is a zipline Canopy Tour?

A Zip Line Canopy Tour is a series of cables and platforms that take you on an exhilarating tour through forests and wildlife. Canopy Tours were originally created to study different plant life and trees. Now it has become much more about the exciting “ziplining” experience. However, we still try and show the forest and wildlife from a perspective you’ll never forget!

Is ziplining safe?

Your safety is our top priority. Each zipline tour is facilitated by at least two tour guides who have been through extensive training. They will take care of every safety-related detail on the course, so all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the rides. Our courses are registered with the PA Department of Agriculture Rides and Measurements Bureau, and they meet/exceed the design standards of ACCT (Association for Challenge Course Technology). One of our guides does a daily “run-through inspection,” a state-certified inspector does a monthly inspection, and once a year, a certified third-party inspector does an inspection. All of our courses use a brake design system that the industry recognizes as the safest approach to braking. Each line is “dialed in” to allow gravity to work as a natural brake. Each line also has a “backup” brake mechanism controlled by our staff, so the participant does not need to worry about slowing themselves down. We use a patented braking/retrieval system called a ZIPKea on each zip line.

Should we tip the tour guides?

There is no tipping expected. There will be at least two guides with your group for the duration of the event, and you can expect that they will be highly professional and safety conscious. They will take good care of your group through the experience, whether you tip them or not!

What physical condition should I be in to participate?

Participants do need to be reasonably fit to participate by the nature of the event. Please see the Activities Release and Waiver Form for more details on this. Still, in general, participants should be able to carry 20-30 lbs of weight without difficulty, climb a flight of stairs, stand without assistance, walk over uneven terrain up and down a moderate slope. See the question below on age, weight, and height restrictions for more detail.

What are the age, weight, and height restrictions for the activities?
  • All activities have a maximum weight of 280 pounds.
  • For most of the “high adventure” activities, individual riders must be at least five years old.
  • An adult MUST accompany children under 13 for the Challenge and Aerial Excursion. For other activities, an adult need only be present. Please see the AGE RATIO GRID for specifics.
