What’s New at Refreshing Mountain?
New for 2013To celebrate our 30th year in operation we are building the Aerial Excursion, a 7 line, 3 Sky Bridges, 3500 foot zip line to wow the visitors. Learn More!
This year will also bring about additions to the staff housing to accommodate our ever growing family.
New for 2012
With every passing year, Refreshing Mountain Camp looks for ways to improve our guests' stays with us. This year is no different. We added a Gaga Pit, one of the newer crazes to hit campgrounds and playgrounds nationwide. Played similarly to dodge ball, all participants are in a large wooded "pit". They may not hold the ball, but must throw it at the others, below the waist and see who lasts last...
Many people ask if we still have hay rides, but we have an even better alternative now; horse-drawn cart rides! No itchy hay, but the same relaxing horse-drawn experience.
We completed the construction of three of 13 cabins! Each cabin has a kitchen, living area, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Furnishings and equipment include rustic furniture, microwave, refrigerator, a stovetop, dishes, cooking utensils, silverware, kitchen towels and glassware. Bath towels and bedroom linens, including mattress covers, pillows, blankets, sheets and pillow cases, also are included. They turned out amazing! There is a two-night minimum stay. This has been ideal for small groups of less than 20, families and personal retreats, and Leadership and Elder's retreats.
Along with the cabins, we added the Activities Pavilion, which was a necessary and convenient blessing for our Activities Department, giving them a central location to run their programs. The Activities Pavilion is right across the path from Cabin A and oversees the High Ropes Course area.
New for 2011It's that time of year again when RMC looks to make updates to our facilities. For the next few months, we will be working on the following projects.
Dining Hall Renovations
FoodService at RMC is consistently serving more guests than we can comfortably seat in the Dining Hall. To date, we have managed this by staggering meal times of different groups, serving in shifts, etc, which has worked reasonably well but does have its challenges. This Fall, we are planning to make a number of improvements to this facility, which include:
- Better accessibility for wheelchairs and persons with limited mobility.
- Convert Meeting Room A into permanent seating for the Dining Hall (remove the interior wall).
- The remodeled interior will seat approx 350-400 people and include a number of amenity updates and improvements (i.e. more fireplaces, booths, sound system, acoustical ceiling, etc).
- Add a new foyer on the east side (parking lot and Lodge side) and also new bathroom areas for the Dining Hall.
- Rebuild the outside deck.
- Place a retaining wall in the front of the building to allow for wider walking paths in this area.
- An improved trash/dish room. Though not part of the current project, this project will set the stage for a transition from disposable products to reusable products in the coming years.
New for 2010
Paving on Camp RoadThis project has been contemplated for a few years, so it is exciting to see it finally happen. This is to complement our recent improvements to the Camp Entrance (i.e. the stone wall entrance and lighting). Additionally, there will be some paving of the areas around Gym #2, and several walking paths.
This project occurred on November 1 and 2, 2010.
Solar Energy ProductionAs part of our Godly Stewarship Projects, we are "farming the sun". As of Sept 20, 2010, RMC completed construction of a 62.72kW solar energy system. There are 3 arrays of solar panels. The most obvious one is between Gym #2 and the soccer field (from the back, it looks like bleachers). The other two arrays are on rooftops. This project will provide approx 30% of our annual electricity needs. It was funded, in part, by a grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
We've Given Our Camp a Facelift
We are in the process of building a new entryway. We are going to have stone walls at the entrance and better lighting so you won't be able to miss us! We have also lined the driveway with new trees.
Bunks 1-4 have had new porches put on with sitting areas that will be great for break out groups and small discussions.
Canopy Tour and High Ropes CourseThe canopy tour is a series of 5 Zip line (total length of approximately 1,500 feet) and a 70' "cat walk" sky bridge. Whether you want to come by yourself or with a group of 20 people, you can have the experience of a lifetime! We also have completely rebuilt our high ropes course. Zip onto the course and make your way through 8 elements that will stretch you mentally and physically, and take a zip line safely back to the ground. The whole course is on a continuous belay system, so you will never have to clip yourself in and out again!

Paintball Obstacle CourseNew for the summer of 2009 is our Paintball Obstacle Course! Participants will maneuver through different obstacles why shooting at 16 different targets! They will not be shooting at other people but will be judged on accuracy and quickness in relation to the target shooting. This is a safe and enjoyable way to experience the paintball sport.
Himroasa HallThis is our newest meeting room. It is connected to Gym #2 and can hold approximately 200 people! This room includes a stage area, carpeting, multiple door access, accompanying bathrooms and porch covered entry are some of the meeting room’s many features. This is a great area to have large meetings, worship God, and just hang out!

Refreshing Mountain Camp Celebrates 25 Years in 2008!!
Lighted Pathways to the LodgesWe've installed a new lighted pathway to our lodges to make it easier for visitors to navigate through our beautiful woods in the evenings! The gently rising pathway is accented with natural stone steps. Folks walking along the pathway will find a nice resting place with chairs and a quiet place to view the surrounding camp.
Remodeled Kitchen Cooking AreaWe have made substantial upgrades to our kitchen equipment to better serve our large groups. This has increased the quality and versatility of our Food Service Department, which now can offer anything from burgers and fries to Prime Rib and Shrimp. Talk to Reservations about Banquet options during your retreat.
New Upper Pool DeckThere are now two decks available for eating at the pool. The new upper deck gives access to our slide tunnel and has umbrella shaded picnic tables to relax and snack.
New for 2007
Skate Park is Out...but Sand Volleyball is In!We've heard it from you!! We thought the skate park would be a useful activity for groups, and many group leaders liked the idea but said that it didn't fit into their events. Therefore, the Skate Park has been liquidated and RMC has installed two sand volleyball courts to take it's place for 2007!
Zip Line at Night
We can now run the zip line at night! We now can line the zip course with "tiki torches" and headlamps providing an extra thrilling sensation zipping through the trees and over the pond! You can now schedule the zip line until 11PM.
